I provide family therapy, parenting support, EMDR, talk based and/or play therapy counselling based on the unique needs of the individual client. I believe that to make positive changes, to grow and to heal, that the therapeutic relationship and feeling safe in therapy are key components to working with children, adolescents and families. I work with children and adolescents to ensure that a trusting relationship is developed and maintained through mutual respect, openness, honesty, a non-judgmental stance using engaging and creative outlets for self-expression. Parenting support and family involvement is an important part of the therapeutic process and is offered based on client consent and individual therapeutic needs.
I offer services to individuals aged 3-13 years of age who are dealing with anxiety challenges, self regulation difficulties, trauma, grief/loss, adjustment issues and parenting concerns. My approach to treatment is client centred and is drawn from family systems, social learning, child development, attachment theories and the Adaptive Information Processing model. Working from a strength-based perspective, I use a variety of approaches and interventions with children, adolescents and families. These are individually tailored to meet clients’ specific needs, goals, developmental stage and disposition. Both non-directive and directive play therapy and developmentally sensitive cognitive behavioral strategies are used. When appropriate EMDR is used. As part of the assessment and treatment process, and with client consent, it may be helpful for me to connect with schools and other professionals involved with the child or youth.
